I actually went to a Jesuit high school, so I’ve been inside the Catholic education system and not once did I ever hear anything but condemnation of violence or coercion in the name of religion. In fact, the teachings I was exposed to emphasized critical thinking, service, and peace. And yes, I have heard of papal bulls they’re just official edicts from the Pope. Some were certainly tied to historical conflicts and abuses, but to suggest they were a master plan for global domination or persecution is a huge stretch. There’s plenty to critique in any institution’s history, but this kind of narrative ignores context and turns complex history into a cartoon villain story.
