No, I don't think that. I do think nostr gets a lot of value and credit from enabling people to send value to each other. That's a compelling and attractive use case. Zaps are cool and seems like they played a role in attracting a solid user base here. I also think that user base has an obvious ceiling and that there are plenty of users out there who would be interested in it if it wasn't so tunnel vision focused on niche Bitcoin maxi features. The protocol is a viable alternative to Twitter. But if you continue to keep the focus so narrow on maxi dogma, then it's not going to reach its potential.

Time and effort that could instead be spent on ways to make nostr a better place for general content literally the entire rest of the world would be interested in. For example ideas like this that went nowhere: https://github.com/nostr-protocol/nips/issues/522 I'm using Amethyst and it's so easy to find all these niche Bitcoin features all over the app that are integrated into the nostr ecosystem. But it's difficult to find interesting content outside of the Bitcoin maxipad bubble. That is a result of conscious collective decision making to cater nostr features to Bitcoin maxis.
