Shotokan means 'Hall of Pine Waves". It comes from Funakoshi's pen name: Shoto. His students later called his dojo the house/hall of Shoto, hence "Shoto kan". He was a poet, not just a fighter. A warrior who wrote poetry. That is the Way. #karate #martialarts

Master Funakoshi said it best: "the mind needs to be freed". For me this means that in life you should always remember to be humble and grateful. Do your best. Don't compare yourself to others or worry about what you cannot control. #karate #martialarts
