Something feels off in the air right now. In the UK, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are lining up to say they have the right to walk away from the Union. Ten years after Brexit, the map still isn’t settled. People were told they could leave the EU and still have strong, straightforward trade with Europe. What showed up instead was a thinner deal, extra border friction, and a running fight over Northern Ireland. The promise and the result were not the same thing. In Canada, Ottawa is talking about becoming an “associate member” of the EU. Not a normal trade deal. A deeper hook into Brussels on energy, defence, minerals, even movement of workers. At the same time, Alberta is openly talking about separation. There is a vote coming on whether the province should start the legal process to leave Confederation. One part of the country is looking to Europe. Another part is asking if Canada still works for it at all. That is historic change. The old order is getting a wrench thrown through it. A lot of people have stopped buying the messaging. They can see the gap between what politicians say at home and what they do on the global stage. Constituents want jobs, housing, energy, and a country that still feels like theirs. Too often the priority looks like fitting in with other capitals, even if that means hollowing out the place you were elected to serve. When voters stop believing the script, they also stop trusting the systems built on that script. Money is one of them. That is one reason more people are choosing Bitcoin. Not because they want a slogan. Because they no longer assume the people running the country will protect the value of what they earn. Does a country get stronger by answering to its own people first, or by chasing the next partnership?
