✊ Bitcoin Independence Day On August 1, 2017, the Block Size War officially ended. #Bitcoin users demonstrated their independence from miner control by successfully rolling out a software update via a User Activated Soft Fork (#UASF). The soft fork disregarded uncooperative #miners, making it clear that users (i.e., nodes), not miners or companies, control the Bitcoin network. You can learn more about these events in Jonathan Bier's book "The Blocksize War." https://archive.bitcoin-calendar.org/archive/1748772034.161593/index.html#singlefile.html

💩 First ICO On July 31, 2013, the first ICO for the "utility" token Mastercoin, later renamed Omni, was launched. Those wishing to participate in the #ICO had to send #bitcoin to the "Exodus Address." Ultimately, the address collected 5,120 #BTC, which at the time amounted to approximately $500,000. https://archive.bitcoin-calendar.org/archive/1748764026.177919/index.html https://archive.bitcoin-calendar.org/archive/1748764122.712561/index.html https://haven.bitcoin-calendar.org/e89d88088fe6c443756331bac7e7726a86fa24d3c014583f4af3164ae8b0f31a.pdf

🪦 Tribute to Len Sassaman On July 30, 2011, Dan Kaminsky and Travis Goodspeed cleverly added an ASCII portrait and a short text into a #Bitcoin transaction in honor of Len Sassaman, who committed suicide on July 3 of the same year, two months after Satoshi sent his last public message. The hackers published the transaction to many specially created addresses that contained text data instead of public key hashes. Therefore, each line contains exactly 20 characters. The close proximity of Satoshi's departure and Len's suicide, and the fact that the latter was a brilliant developer involved in the creation of TCP/IP, working on #PGP, and many other projects, lead many to believe that he was the person behind the mysterious pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto. https://archive.bitcoin-calendar.org/archive/1748756049.874818/index.html#content.html https://archive.bitcoin-calendar.org/archive/1748756125.562482/index.html https://archive.bitcoin-calendar.org/archive/1748756206.638479/index.html#singlefile.html
