By the way - Nontact - the no-maintenance address book - is done and ready - you can try it right now, no install: https://jafairweather.github.io/nostr-scoped-data-grants/web/ — sign in with your NIP-07 extension or generate a throwaway.

Well - here is a swing at the fence. Contact data on nostr today is either radically public (kind 0) or a snapshot (someone DMs you something and you store it in your own contact manager) - and that starts rotting immediately. The rot immediately is a problem with every contact manager. I drafted a NIP : Scoped Data Grants — permissioned, private, live-updating personal data - that enables distributed contact manager. You keep ONE encrypted record of your contact info per audience ("scope") on regular relays. Grant access by gift-wrapping the scope key to someone. From then on they always see your current data — change your number once, everyone you chose sees it, nobody re-shares anything. Cut someone off by rotating the key. Relays see only ciphertext; who shares what with whom is invisible. The address book stops being a thing anyone maintains. It's just a view. Here are the pros: • Zero relay changes — runs on damus/nos.lol/primal today • Two independent implementations (JS + Go), interop-tested on live relays • Working client (Nontact) included • Spec + code, CC0: https://github.com/JAFairweather/nostr-scoped-data-grants Feedback wanted before I open the PR to nostr-protocol/nips — especially from client devs: what would stop you from implementing this? #devstr
