The ColdCard tragedy, because it is a tragedy for many, should remind everyone to adhere to common sense: 1- Nothing should be adopted based on (paid) influencers saying it is great. Especially crypto influencers, the vast majority of them are clueless about technology and probably do not understand what the word entropy means... 2- ColdCard is probably sincere when it comes to saying their product was great over the last few years, they legitimately thought that their implementation was correct, hardware is hard, and software interacting with hardware also is hard and this type of bug can easily be overlooked. Don't let the LLM craze make you think they are a bunch of incompetent, LLMs are not perfect and can easily pass by obvious issues. 3- Self custody remains the only way to be fully in control. If your only goal is NGU, then go with an ETF and give your hardware wallets to friends who maybe understand better the importance of being in control.
