Zip We’ve made easy things sound like childish things. Why do shoes have laces? Velcro has existed forever, and children have Velcro shoes that are great, and then they grow up and suddenly we’re told that convenience is for children. Every piece of clothing that has buttons could be slip-on or zipped. Every single one. Buttons look great, and so do shoelaces when they’re not dangling around because they are so ridiculously inconvenient. Children wear helmets all the time. Then they grow up and not dying is for children. Going around with rollerblades is cool as heck and yet, grownups don’t do much of that. On the other hand, it seems that every time we do something that was intended for children, we ruin it. Remember when scooters were super cute devices and not ankle-breaking machines invading every sidewalk? So maybe we should keep trying our shoelaces before we come up with a way to make velcro shoes dangerous and overconsumption-centric. Bleh. https://alexsirac.com/zip/ #children #every #velcro #buttons #rss #feeds #linksharing #qwibbit

Writober 2026 – Fracture There’s a fracture in my mind. Between who I am and who I was, between who I am and who I think I am, between who I think I am and who I want to be. I guess everyone has that fracture and everyone feels like they’re the only one. Deciding to quit my industry has forced me to think of what I want to do. What do I want? What even are my values? What life do I want to live? Who am I? Who even am I? This question keeps coming to me. How do I define myself? There’s my love for my hometown, sure. What else? Visiting Canada made me feel more French than ever, I violently felt the gap created by 20 years and my whole adult life away. My job was custom-built in my last two companies, so there’s no job title or work identity, not even mentioning that it’s all changing anyway. Wikipedia, Wikimedia? Love them, but they’re not my identity. Not skating, it’s been fifteen years and I refuse to think I peaked in high school. My partner? God, I hope I never use my partner as a fixed identity, no matter how wonderful they are. I don’t even have a gender! So the fracture is there, and it grows as I walk through life and discover what I like, who I am and who I definitely am not and will not be. It’s a journey, and one worth taking. Thinking it’s an easy one would be naive. https://alexsirac.com/writober-2026-fracture/ #fracture #love #wikimedia #canada #french #visitingcanada #rss #feeds #linksharing #qwibbit

Writober 2026 – Dapper I dressed very nicely yesterday at an alumni afterwork thanks to a brand new shirt I got on Vinted for about 4€. It was great. I recommend second-hand clothing, especially if you’re plus-sized. I also recommend going to alumni meetings. I didn’t expect to enjoy this so much! Now I’m going out so yes, today’s entry is very short. Sorry! The man next to me was saying something very, very interesting. https://alexsirac.com/writober-2026-dapper/ #sorry #rss #feeds #linksharing #qwibbit

Writober 2026 – Hero / 6 ways you can be a hero TODAY 1. Sacrifice yourself for someone else. eg. pretend it was your turn to do the dishes even though obviously it’s your sloppy housemate. 2. Give people access to dangerous, but vital, information. eg. contribute photos to Wikipedia pages about body hair. 3. Speak up for those who can’t. eg. say « wooooo » in an eerie voice once in a while to empower any dead people in the area. 4. Be an example to everyone around you. eg. show kids that trying and failing to become a professional fortnite streamer has not ruined your life. 5. Save lives. eg. don’t stab your colleague with anything sharper than a spoon. 6. Make people laugh. If they’re not laughing at you, it’s even better, but I have no advice for that one. https://alexsirac.com/writober-2026-hero-6-ways-you-can-be-a-hero-today/ #hero #give #speak #save #make #rss #feeds #linksharing #qwibbit

My episode on the Web Weaving podcast In Episode 24, I chat with Alex, the author of alexsirac.com about, among other things, collective intelligence in public commons, what the IndieWeb can learn from Wikipedia, community in comments, and more. ↬web-weaving.jamesg.blog/24 Huge thanks to James for hosting a conversation with me on his Web Weaving podcast! We were supposed to talk about multilingual blogging, but we got completely sidetracked. Listen (or read the excellent transcript, thanks so much Zachary!) to the episode to hear about what bloggers can learn from Wikipedia, what the weirdest word of the French language is, and most importantly, why Skyblogs were the highest cultural point of human civilisation. I really enjoyed doing this episode, and I hope you’ll enjoy reading it / listening to it! https://alexsirac.com/my-episode-on-the-web-weaving-podcast/ #webweaving #weavingpodcast #episode #alex #huge #zachary #french #rss #feeds #linksharing #qwibbit
