Each year since moving to Texas I've celebrated the 4th of July with friends and family by reading the Declaration of Independence. The whole thing. Not just the preamble. The purpose of holidays was never meant to be an excuse to take off from work and eat and drink too much. They are for remembrance and gratitude, otherwise nothing else entitles us to a vacation on these special days.
