Dad here! I was once told (early in my dad life) that spending just 10 minutes a day on your hands and knees, eye to eye with your kid is the best thing you can do. And I've found that to be true. No need for a plan just let them lead. The magic happens on its own. That said, it is sonetimes helpful to have a quick go-to list of something simple to bust out and teach. Over the years I've compiled a list of things I've done with my own kids that went well. I'm going to start posting them here just so y'all have something in your back pocket. Practical Magic for Dads #1 Quick home experiments to blow your kids' minds and teach physics. 5 mins each. 3-5 yr old: Squeeze Diver Why: Buoyancy + pressure. Teaches air compression changes density. How: Fill bottle with water. Drop in eyedropper (half air). Squeeze bottle — diver sinks/rises. Real world: Submarines dive by compressing air tanks, just like this. 6-12 yr old: Coanda Stream Why: Fluids stick to curves. Shows air entrainment. How: Thin faucet stream. Hold spoon (curved side to water, no touch) — stream bends to spoon. Real world: Planes fly because air sticks to curved wings. 6-12 yr old: Faraday Phone Block Why: EM shielding. Blocks radio waves. How: Wrap phone in foil (2 layers). Call it — silent. Unwrap, rings. Real world: Cars shield your phone from lightning. Magic from your kitchen. Zap if useful! #practicalmagic #dadhacks ⚡🧪 Let me know how it goes!
