I agree, but when you say that, how much of âNostrâ is just basically client-server architecture + keys? If we call that nostr, then yeah itâs the bedrock
Ok? If you enter your key somewhere, youâre giving them access to run everything. Pubky is infinitely more secure than that. And if you use Nostr signers, Pubky is also much simpler. So cool, copy what pubky is doing and put it on nostr. Problem solved.
Your cool idea here is âwe can build pubky on Nostrâ. And I would be excited by that bc itâs like Nostr for normal people. So obviously there is value in Pubky. Because we wouldnât have been spurred to have these discussions without it.
I got into decentralized networks through Gun DB. So I get it
Joe this is the most fruitful discussion regardless of misunderstandings. I think itâs really helpful to talk about Nostr vs pubky in terms of âcan you build one with the other?â
So you could have the benefits of DHT DNS and Nostr if you used the DHT with Tor I guess. The thing is, I donât think the DNS lookups even happen very often
> Mainline DHT means nothing if it can be easily detected and censored. Couldnât you say the same thing about Bitcoin?
Nostr can be turned into Urbit too⌠wow (read the comment and following thread)
Consensus is not something I look for. Not even something that piqued my interest in pubky
I think the only missing thing would be this aspect then. Or maybe thatâs solved too. Not sure.
Weâd need to combine this with some kind of âmaster keyâ and delegation system, right?
Yeah letâs just do it that way then. Itâs better for regular people. Decreases foot guns
Youâd need a protocol that shows which relays are trusted and given auth. Youâre reinventing pubky at that point
Pubky sounds closer to Urbit. Which I consider a good thing
One thing I donât like about Nostr is that you have zero ability to lock down who has read access to your notes. I guess unless you run your own server, but even then the nature of the protocol is to spread notes like an unstoppable virus. But 99% of people donât want that. Nostr sacrifices safety for proliferation, which is not that trade off that most people want or need. Does Pubky differ at all in this regard?
I think it just depends on what likes actually are. Change them to ârecâ for ârecommendâ or something and then they necessarily become public. But then adding both a private and public distinction for likes adds its own trap. âOh youâre too good to like this publicly?â đ Iâm a fan of the âputting flyers up in public locationsâ metaphor for Nostr. Following this metaphor, there are no likes, thereâs only graffiti added onto the flyers.
I think it makes sense to have an encrypted private following list. Itâs pretty much an automation input. Youâre hiring someone to ask around town if each establishment has seen these people lately. Make it feel like that, a costly, but ultimately time-saving endeavor.
The decimal place is an illusion
Wouldnât that mean that Pubky would be able to be *more* censorship resistant than Nostr? If so, why is the compliance issue a big deal when Pubky would make it easier to distribute content?
The pre-pre-prompt should include all of the info about what Maple is and how it works. At least until knowledge about the company is more widely known and the models pick up that info organically.
> We don't really have a system prompt for Maple, so it doesn't really know that itself exists Why not? Itâs simple and the UX vastly improves
Every single app built on Nostr has rotten UX. Itâs laughably byzantine. Just awful experience to try to figure it all out.
chronic early adopter of decentralized tech :)
